In celebration of Leap Year we had a story time Leap Day! It was all about leaping, jumping and having a hopping good time!
“If You’re Happy and You Know It”
Mr. Mouse came hopping out of his box with his friend Grasshopper. He wanted to read books about leaping and hopping for Leap Day!
A young joey is trying to learn how to jump. His friends try to show him how it is done. It isn’t until he empties out his pockets that he can finally go BOING! For more information on this flannel board, see my Boing! Boing! A Kangaroo Jumping Story Flannel Friday post.
Getting the Wiggles Out
I made this one up to help get the wiggles out and get the kids ready for the next story. There are a ton of versions of this type of wiggler out there.
Put your hands up
Put your hands down
Give yourself a turn around
Shake your hands to the left
Shake your hands to the right
Hug yourself nice and tight
Cross your legs and sit right down
Another story is starting now
Five little frogs sitting by a pool (put five fingers up and then cup hands)
One went splash in the water that was so cool (raise one finger and jump once)
Froggies splash high (raise hands and wave above while you jump)
Froggies splash low (put your hands close to the floor while you jump)
Froggies splash everywhere, to and fro. (wave arms and jump all around)
Five Green and Speckled Frogs
Five green and speckled frogs
sat on a speckled log.
Eating the most delicious bugs…
One jumped into the pool
where it was nice and cool.
Then there were___
Green Speckled Frogs.
For more information on this flannel/song see my Five Green and Speckled Frogs post.
Guess what animals leap and jump!
I put a bunch of different animals in a box. I described an animal before I took it out. The kids had to tell which animal/insect it was and whether it could jump and leap. This is a good break between stories.
